Some things never change, like my love for wearing denim to the office.
Oh no! Denim? In the office? Sorry business majors, this post may not be for you. I've never been a business kind of girl -- despite my stint taking business classes to earn a certificate in college. Try to put me in a button down and blazer and I feel completely out of my element. I do own a few blazers, of course, but I never pair them with matching slacks or a pencil skirt. Instead of the stuffy LinkedIn business casual look, I prefer a variation that consists of a cheap and lightweight button up short sleeve shirt with a jean jacket or light colored blazer.
Can and should jean jackets be worn to the workplace? It obviously depends on the profession, but since I'm chasing a creative one (and style is a big part of that focus) I think the answer is YES -- as long as you dress it up and don't look grungy.
PANTS
Try pairing a jean jacket with nicer black jeans or skinny black Madewell pants. My go-to pair are the Madewell High Riser Skinny (they come in sateen or black denim) or a nude or rose colored BDG Twig Corduroy High-Rise Skinny Pant (available at Urban Outfitters.)
SHOES
I paired this outfit with my chunky black booties I've been wearing all winter, but it would also look great with a classic and clean cut loafer. I prefer Zara's Flat Leather Shoes in Grey or Urban Outfitters' Anne Suede Loafers in Brown.
ACCESSORIES
A drop necklace or dainty necklace is perfect with this casual look, since any statement pieces would be too heavy with the thick jean jacket. I am carrying my Kate Spade backpack with this look and I think it looks really nice with the vibe, but any black tote would work as well. The simpler the better with this outfit's accessories!
I hope you enjoy my "Austin Suit" as much as I do -- it's a great look to keep in your back pocket when you're running late to the office and don't know what to wear or the temperature is going to be ranging from 50 to 70 degrees while you're at work. And before I forget... How cute are these Warby Parker Louise Glasses in Elderflower Crystal? I love how light the frames are against my skin tone. They say "nerdy" without overpowering my facial features! They were only $95 online and have perscription lenses.
Keep your eyes peeled next Monday for another work wear look by yours truly!
